Sports director of HJK Vesa Mäki admitted his mistakes in the head coach saga.
– It became clear during the first or second phone call that From Ferran (Sibyl) missing the UEFA Pro qualification.
However, the Catalan had told Mäe that in practice he should qualify for the next Pro course starting in Sweden. According to Sibila, the green light would be given if only a coach was appointed to a position where the relevant license would be required.
– We also received the same clear information from elsewhere that Ferra will be accepted for the course in Sweden.
We don’t know if it was a misunderstanding, a language barrier, or deliberate obfuscation: Sibila didn’t make it to the Swedish course. When choosing students, they prefer coaches who will continue to train Blågult’s own futsists.
– Of course, at this point I should have confirmed with the Swedish association that this information is true. Hand up as a sign of error, Mäki admitted on Monday.

Even after the fall of the house of cards, no one in HJK is ready to admit that the appointment of Sibila in itself was a mistake. He may very well be the head coach by midsummer and lead the club to the group stage of the Eurocups again.
But it is equally clear that HJK could not have chosen the inexperienced Sibila as the head coach if the club had known about the Swedish federation’s decision in advance or even about the related uncertainty.
Mäki’s activities have been criticized with quite sharp turns of phrase. You can understand that, because HJK is associated with a strong emotional charge.

– We have preliminary information that Sibila could start the Pro course in the summer. There is no exact date, Mäki admitted.
– Ferran has even pointed out that it is possible to drag out the whole season like this. Now it has been agreed together that when he moves to the course, he will become the head coach.
A police matter?
Perhaps it could have already learned that in this specific case it would not be worthwhile to shout out “preliminary information” to the public anymore.
– In HJK, the pressure is the greatest, and that is part of this task. Everyone has the right to criticize, but there have been things in the public that are not true.
– I’ve certainly made more mistakes than missed a single phone call, but I do find this unreasonable, says Mäki.
However, despite his mistakes, the sports director has the full support of his superiors.
– You can criticize me. But it bothers me that as a result I have received hate mail and threats. And of course it has also disturbed my family’s life.
– And it makes you fat.
Chairman Olli-Pekka Lyytikainen has even considered filing a criminal complaint.
– Those messages are not nice. Yesterday, we discussed with the chairman that there is a limit somewhere.
