Nummela is known as a real music center. Among other things, they originate from there Anssi Kela, Sanni, Elias Kaskinen and Amorphis Tomi Joutsen. However, on Friday, Nummela’s ruler was the German Alphaville.

The legendary band was fixed as the main performer of the opening day of the second Hiidenkirnu festival. The band that made their biggest hits in the 80s can be counted as a nostalgia band. Sometimes such people throw lukewarm concerts, only serve their old hits clinically and leave the stage with an easy pocketbook.

Alphaville was a completely different country.

The 69-year-old frontman of the band Marian Gold was genuinely excited and present, and the familiar songs were perfectly adapted to the rest of the band, which has experienced several line-up changes over the years.

The Nummela audience also thanked in the best possible way. Around 4,000 people danced and sang. Especially with the band’s biggest hit, Forever Young, the audience took the reins and sang along from beginning to end, so that at one point Gold just put his hand to his heart and smiled at his Finnish listeners.

The hour-long party set was filled with the band’s camp songs: Jet Set, Victory of Love, Sounds like a Melody, Next Generation, Big in Japan, Forever Young, Dance With Me and Summer in Berlin were all songs from the band’s first two albums. The production of the 21st century was represented only by I Died for You Today.

Gold smiled widely throughout the show and you could see from everything that he enjoyed performing.

During the encores, his expression suddenly became serious.

Gold had been informed that the gig had to be stopped because the time was running out. According to the festival’s permits, the music had to stop at 01:00.

However, the band would have liked to play one last song.

– These wouldn’t let us play even one song, the irritated singer told the audience.

The reason for the confusing situation was that the gig had started a couple of minutes behind schedule, as there had been technical challenges with the band’s drums. Now those couple of minutes threatened to end the call earlier than Gold wanted.

Gold and keyboardist Carsten Brocker had a quick chat and solved the problem. They played Monkey on the Moon, the only 90s song of the show, as the last song. The band shortened the song by a couple of minutes on the fly, so that the last note was heard just as the clock turned to 01.

Backstage after the gig, Gold was full of happiness.

– An absolutely insane gig, the audience was great, commented the star.

You have to appreciate the endurance of Gold, who will soon turn 70, because because of the late gig, he only had two hours of sleep before his morning flight to the next gig in Norway.

Hiidenkirnu’s second festival day on Saturday starts at 4 p.m. The day experienced a program change, because someone got sick Samu Haber is unable to perform but has been fixed in his place Jannika B. Other performers of the day include Younghearted, JVG, Anssi Kela and Kuumaa.
