The Russian side is counting on the common sense of Western partners in the matter of ensuring security, he said on the air of the TV channel “Russia 24” Head of the International Committee of the Federation Council Grigory Karasin. According to him, after the US response difficult military-diplomatic work is ahead.
He noted that the Russian side intends to seek “clear documented obligations of the West” – to renounce the expansion of NATO and advance to Russian borders, from the deployment of Alliance bases along the perimeter of Russian territory.
Dialogue with the West made possible thanks to the meeting Vladimir Putin and Joseph Biden in Geneva in June 2021, said the chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs.
“At this meeting, the door to some kind of greater understanding and dialogue of mutual concerns was ajar,” Karasin noted. “Therefore, it seems to me that difficult diplomatic work is ahead, military-diplomatic work, I would say. But our initiative gave peace a chance. I hope that all peoples living on Earth will be able to use this chance. In this case, we rely on the common sense of our Western partners.”
