The Hanseatic Belt in 2040: Location conference at the TH Lübeck identifies top trends for the region

Shaping knowledge and technology transfer together

Prof. Frank Schwartze, Vice President for Innovation and Regional Cooperation at the Lübeck University of Technology (TH), opened the conference: “Today we are setting a starting point for more innovation and cooperation in the Hanseatic Belt, made possible by the HI Lübeck project as part of the BMBF funding program ‘Innovative University’. We are fortunate to be able to work with you to further expand the regional transfer structure between universities, business and society. Because knowledge and technology transfer does not happen automatically. This requires formats, people and spaces that stimulate transfer in the region.”

Prof. Stefan Fischer, Vice President of University of Lübeck, added: “The location conference is a good example of how transfer works. In the future, we will provide even more spaces for exchange and create structures that anchor the campus in the region. We look forward to this and to the exchange with you.”

The future trends

After a keynote speech by Dr. Hinrich Habeck, managing director of Economic development and technology transfer Schleswig-Holstein GmbHthe conference was dedicated to future-shaping trends in the Hansebelt region. This was identified by Thomas Haubold, Senior Innovation Consultant at TREND ONE, in the areas of “Networked and Intelligent Infrastructure”, “Datafication”, “Planet Centricity”, “Ethical Consumption / Generation Alpha” and “New Work”. The contributions to the panel highlighted that a hyper-connected environment and technologies, ever larger data sets and the use of artificial intelligence are closely linked to trends around sustainability, conscious consumption and new work. Cooperative collaboration across industries is becoming increasingly important in order to solve future challenges.

Moving from consuming knowledge to doing

In four topic workshops, the participants developed scenarios and innovation ideas for the leading research and economic sectors in the Hansebelt region: Energy/Smart City, Production of Tomorrow, Nutrition/Bioeconomy and Intelligent Health. After a final panel discussion with Dr. Muriel Helbig, President of the Lübeck University of Technology, Nils Stoll, Managing Director of Krüger Aviation GmbH and Chairman of the Innovation and Technology Committee IHK in Lübeck and Dario Arndt, authorized representative of Lübeck economic developmentthe conference network meeting offered the opportunity for further exchange.
