The handball players of E&O/Hurry-Up from Emmen and Zwartemeer battle against Aalsmeer 2 in the cup

The handball players from Oosting E&O/Hurry-Up fought to the end in the quarter-finals of the cup against the second team from Aalsmeer on Wednesday evening, but lost 37-36.

Goalkeeper Sjoerd Grit kept the combination team, with players from Emmen and Zwartemeer, in the match in the absolute final phase with a great save. E&O/Hurry-Up was allowed to attack once more with only a few seconds left on the clock at 37-36. That resulted in a final free throw, which had to be thrown immediately at the Aalsmeer goal. Sverre Jansen shot hard, but on the outside post.

As a result, the visitors did not get the much-needed equalizer and extra time. Aalsmeer 2 won and celebrated the victory exuberantly, shouting and shouting. Just like on Tuesday, the team had advanced to the semi-finals of the cup tournament against the main force of the North Hollanders.

E&O/Hurry-Up cannot be shaken off

E&O/Hurry-Up just didn’t manage to do that. But coach Martin de Hoop’s men were close. From the start, the initiative in the exciting cup match lay more with the home team. Aalsmeer’s second came two or sometimes three goals ahead, but could not shake off the Drenthe. Just before half time, E&O/Hurry-Up, which started to cover better, first came alongside and then took the lead.

Teams remain evenly matched

After halftime, which started at 18-19 for the visitors, the teams remained evenly matched. After 30-30, Aalsmeer took another lead of 34-31, but saw it shrink again due to, among others, the excellent Daan Molenbroek. The difference was again only one goal in favor of the home team. E&O/Hurry-Up was just not effective enough in the final phase to turn the match. In the exciting final phase, the people of Drenthe just came out on top.
