The handball players of Oosting E&O/Hurry-Up reached the quarter-finals of the cup in a superior manner on Thursday evening. The hopeless Quintus was defeated 38-27 in Emmen.
From the start, there was no question of a real match between E&O/Hurry-Up and Quintus in the Angelslo sports hall in the eighth final of the national cup. And that was amazing. With Quintus from Kwintsheul, the number four of the Premier League visited Emmen. A team that has three points more than number six in the E&O/Hurry-Up standings.
The combination team with players from Emmen and Zwartemeer immediately made it clear that there would be little or nothing for Quintus to achieve in the cup match. That started fifteen minutes later because the bus with the South Holland players arrived late at the sports hall. The cause was the bad weather conditions along the way. Whether it was because of that or just because of the good play of the home team: Quintus was quite upset.
E&OHurry-Up turns on the thumbscrews
The superior E & O/Hurry-Up immediately put the thumbs down. The team, which is under the technical leadership of coach Martin de Hoop, has grown in shape in recent months. Many players from the combination team regularly participate at a higher level in the main force of Hurry-Up in the BeNe-League and only become better as a result. In the cup match, the home team quickly took an 8-1 lead.
Quintus continuously suffered from the strong cover of E&O/Hurry-Up. And if a ball did come through, the Emmer keeper Sjoerd Grit often intervened well. In the attack, the people of Emmen and Zwartemeer had their sights on edge. Daan Molenbroek hit the ball hard, while Youri Braker scored frequently from the left and Anes Devedcic from the right corner.
Quintus’s backlog is increasing
The disadvantage of the powerless visitors continued to grow. The Quintus coach tried to get his men back on track with two timeouts, but that didn’t help. E&O/Hurry-Up continued to score, while the visitors only managed to do so only to a limited extent. At halftime the home team led 21-8 and the match was essentially over.
In the second half, E&O/Hurry-Up started too slowly, which could possibly be explained by the large lead. Quintus was able to take advantage of losing the ball and score a number of times. The South Holland handball players came back into the match a little bit. Because the people of Emmen were messing around, Quintus gradually reduced the deficit to 23-14. This was partly due to some good fresh forces who came into the field with the visitors.
The people of Emmen can already smell the victory
But then the fun for the guests was over. E&O/Hurry-Up took the game a little more seriously and started scoring again. The score was 34-22 and the combination team could already smell the quarter-finals. That became a fact a little later with the 38-27 victory for the team from Emmen. There was absolutely nothing to criticize about the deserved victory.
