The guesswork out about starring in her biopic is over

In Hollywood there are sometimes hundreds of appointments for actors, called auditions. Big and small. For video clips, advertising, TV or feature films. Mostly discreetly behind closed doors: “Thank you, that’s it! The next one, please…”

It’s different with Madonna. No silence, but plenty of alarm in advance. Since it became known that the Queen of Pop is working with Universal (which is also her current record label) on a biopic about herself, speculation has run rampant as to who will play the young rising star, who initially appeared in the New York branch of the Italian fashion brand Fiorucci sold colorful clothes.

Names such as Sydney Sweeney (“Euphoria”), Alexa Demie and Barbie Ferreira appeared in the trade press. Known and less known. Bebe Rexha, Sky Ferreira, Odessa Young and Emma Laird also had to audition small early 80s scenes in front of a strict selection committee. Finally, the candidate must also convince Madonna herself, who is sitting on the director’s chair with a peaked cap and megaphone: “Everything at the beginning!”

Now at least the search for gossip is over: Julia Garner (28) was offered the role. This was reported by the well-connected US trade journal “Variety”. Speaking for Garner is that she’s from the Bronx and grew up in the greater New York area. In other words, she should have the necessary portion of “street credibility” from home. She has already shown her skills in Netflix series such as “Ozark” or in “Inventing Anna”.

According to the first PR information, Madonna’s film is intended to trace the “struggle as an artist trying to survive as a woman in a man’s world”. A unique pop star’s journey as “happy, sad, crazy, good, bad and ugly story”.

It wouldn’t be Madonna if there hadn’t already been all sorts of trouble about the ambitious life’s work. Star author and Oscar winner Diablo Cody wrote the first ambitious draft of the screenplay – and then left the project in April 2022. Sulfur fumes rose between the two alpha ladies – and the glamor world rejoiced over rumors of “all kinds of trouble”; even if they were later denied.

In a statement that started her own PR camp, the ‘Material Girl’ philosophized that she wanted to convey ‘an incredible journey that life as an artist, musician and dancer has taken me on. A human being trying to find his way in this world. The focus of this film will always be the music. Music kept me alive and art kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories, and who better to tell them than me. It’s important to share the rollercoaster ride of my life with my voice and vision.”

Well-forged words. Let’s wait benevolently for the result when Julia Garner finds “Into The Groove” on the dance floor in the former NYC hip dance club Area at 157 Hudson Street…
