The charity single “We Are the World” was created 39 years ago and became a global sensation. 46 of some of the most famous musicians of their time came together to raise money for famine relief in Africa. The song became the anthem of Live Aid in July 1985, alongside the British entry “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” Netflix has now announced “The Greatest Night in Pop” for January 29th – a documentary about the success and creation of the track.
Old recordings from the studio and new interviews
The film was directed by Jim Henson and presents recordings from the studio where the supergroup came together. Participating artists included Bruce Springsteen, Smokey Robinson, Cyndi Lauper, Dionne Warwick and Huey Lewis, all of whom contributed new interviews for the documentary.
The text was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, as the latter already reports in the trailer.
