Indian chess grandmaster Guha Mitrabha22, has become the target of a very special cheating scandal.

Mitrabha is currently playing in the World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships in Uzbekistan, and the shoes she wore in the tournament have caused quite a stir.

In its broadcast, the Norwegian broadcasting company NRK picked up for close-up pictures the shoes that had crumbled completely while the grandmaster was playing the match.

Suspicions of fraud immediately arose, because in chess you can try to cheat by hiding remote-controlled signaling devices in your shoes.

– Check those shoes, NRK commentator Be Rolfsrud demanded Dagbladet by.

– It looks like he walked really fast and his shoes melted into the asphalt, expert Heidi Röneid wondered.

The tournament city in Samarkand was nine degrees warm that day, so the asphalt had hardly burned the shoes.

Explanation

According to Mitrabha, the shoes started falling apart when he entered the tournament hall. They were still fine when they left the hotel.

The Indian mother had to go get new shoes for her son. Mitrabhaa was embarrassed.

– It was humiliating. I didn’t expect that to happen. I had only worn the shoes about ten times – sometime two years ago, she said for NRK.

According to the mother, the grandmaster usually wears running shoes, but now the old leather shoes had to be dug out of the closet because of the dress code of the tournament.

– There was something wrong with the bottom of the shoe and it fell apart. The shoes broke after a few minutes of walking, mother wondered.

Mitrabha managed to beat his opponent with his “melting” shoes, even though he was playing with black pieces, whose turn is only after the white ones. After changing shoes, he didn’t do as well.
