The Government spokesperson and Minister of Territorial Policy, Isabel Rodríguez, considers that what is being known about the contract for the Super Cup to be played in Saudi Arabia is ethically “reprehensible” and he would like it to be reconsidered that the dispute of that tournament be outside of Spain.
Rodríguez has referred in an interview on Spanish Television to the controversy generated by the details of that contract between the Royal Spanish Football Federation and Saudi Arabia with the mediation of the Kosmos company, of Barcelona footballer Gerard Piqué.
Although she has admitted that she is not very fond of football, the Executive’s spokeswoman has said that she finds it difficult to understand that a Spanish championship is played in another country, depriving the fans of participating in it.
“It is a worrying matter that, of course, is reprehensible from a moral and ethical point of view and I hope they rethink it,” He has pointed out when asked if he thinks the Super Cup should continue to be played in Saudi Arabia.
Rodríguez added that “unfortunately”, the Spanish Football Federation does not receive public money and, therefore, has not been able to be supervised by the State.
