“Therefore I am not going to do politics with the dead because I do not think that is the priority of Spanish citizens at this time,” says Feijóo
The exhumation of the mortal remains of General Gonzalo Queipo de Llano has faced again this Thursday the Governmentwho has celebrated having “a more dignified Spain”and the main opposition party, which has called “leave the dead alone” and focus on solving the problems of the living.
The Minister of the Presidency, Felix Bolanosstated this Thursday that Spain has risen “more dignified” and with “a better democracy” after being exhumed this morning from the Macarena basilica, in Seville, the mortal remains of Queipo de Llano and General Francisco Bohórquez “because there can be no place to pay homage to genocides”.
Bolaños has asked “those who say they would repeal the Democratic Memory Law if the remains of a genocide who he had 45,000 people shot at the foot of the Macarena in Seville”.
For his part, the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has indicated that he likes to talk much more about the living than about the dead. “Politics should focus on solving the problems of the living, and leave the dead in peace, but each one with their priorities,” he added before stating that he is very concerned about the country’s economic, social and institutional situation.
“So I’m not going to do politics with the dead because I don’t think that this is the priority of Spanish citizens at this time”, he concluded.
a historical debt
From the Government, the second vice president, Yolanda Diazhas said he has “mixed feelings”, since although it is an act of “democratic normality”, it makes him “sad because too much time has passed”, while the Minister of Social Rights and leader of Podemos, Ione Belarrahas affirmed that a historical debt with Andalusia is settled and the memory of thousands of victims is “dignified”.
On the opposite side, the leader of Vox has spoken, Santiago Abascalwho has accused the President of the Executive, Pedro Sánchez, of “profaning graves”.
“These days in which so many Spaniards go to the cemeteries, to remember and honor their deceased… Sánchez and his henchmen take advantage of them to desecrate graves and disturb the rest of the dead“, Abascal has criticized on social networks.
To questions from journalists in Congress, the PSOE spokesman, patxi lopezhas framed the exhumation of Queipo de Llano within compliance with the recently approved Democratic Memory Law.
Equally, Gabriel Rufianfrom ERC, has celebrated compliance with the law, even if it is late, and has highlighted that it has been “much more generous and merciful than he was with his victims”.
“A fascist like him perhaps deserved something else”said Rufián, who previously on social networks has considered “justice” to have removed the remains of Queipo de Llano from a basilica so that his family can do what they consider with them.
Finally, from United We Can, the deputy James Asens has considered the removal of the remains of the basilica as “good news; an act of dignity, justice and democratic reparation; and fulfilling the law and the will of the family” of Queipo de Llano, who “murdered thousands of people and incited to rape republican women”.
