The developers of two housing projects in Haarlemmermeer that were unable to start due to increased construction costs will receive 2.7 million euros from the government. This concerns the Bols Quadrant in Nieuw-Vennep and Hyde Park in Hoofddorp. Seven other projects that the municipality submitted for the subsidy will receive nothing.
The Ministry of the Interior announced today which housing projects throughout the Netherlands will receive the start-up construction impulse. The subsidy was created by outgoing Housing Minister Hugo de Jonge to revive housing projects that have stalled due to increased construction costs.
According to the municipality, 262 homes can be built from the 2,745,586 euros that the developers Bolskwartier BV, ZVM and Msolution will receive. Half of these are ‘affordable housing’. These are 77 social rental homes and 54 owner-occupied homes with a purchase price of a maximum of 355,000 euros.
Haarlemmermeer housing councilor Jurgen Nobel stated in a press release that he is satisfied with the amount that has been awarded. “Of course you always hope for more, but this is an excellent outcome, because we are talking about a substantial number of homes that we desperately need. We will discuss with the developers of the seven projects that do not receive a subsidy to see whether their project can continue without a subsidy.”
350 million
Municipalities eagerly tried to make use of the start-up construction incentive. A total of 820 applications have been submitted for an amount of 850 million euros, while only 350 million has been made available. Haarlemmermeer submitted nine applications for a total of almost 14 million euros.
The start-up construction incentive is only awarded to construction projects that can start no later than 2025. The homes must also be completed within a maximum of 36 months. Projects that require relatively little funding, that start quickly and for which there is a good chance that they will actually start at the planned start time, had the best chance according to the government’s conditions.
