Aznar, in a speech at a Faes Foundation campus, said this Tuesday that the amnesty would legitimize the “seditious attempt”, would be “an invitation to do it again” and would mark “the point of no return towards the destruction of the Constitution.” “, which is why he urged a civic response from Spanish society like the one made in his day against terrorism.
“It is absolutely serious that a former president of the Government makes these types of statements that look more like anti-democratic and coup-like behavior than those of a former president and that are, of course, incompatible with the democratic and constitutional values of our country,” Rodríguez stressed.
He added that “it was he who lied to the Spaniards and that it was he who used the largest terrorist attack on our country”, in reference to the one on March 11, 2004.
For this reason, he believes, but “because of what his figure represents and the role he still has in the Popular Party”, Feijóo should ask him to rectify “in the interest of our country, of the constitutional and democratic values that are our own.”
Rodríguez has asked for Feijóo’s “immediate reaction” to “correct that direction” taken by Aznar and has asked himself “what would be next, the call for an uprising?”
