It has been 60 years since the death of Angelo Giuseppe Roncallibetter known as Pope John XXIIIthe 261st bishop of Rome in office from 28 October 1958 until the day of his death, which took place on 3 June 1963. Tonight, to remember the beloved figure of Pope John XXIII, Canale 5 decided to broadcast the miniseries directed in 2003 by Ricky Tognazzi, The good dad.

The plot

The good pope traces the entire life of Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli, from his childhood through theelection to the throne of Peterthe relationship with Cardinal Mattia Carcano, the Second Vatican Council he convened and his death after just over 4 years of papacy.

The cast of the TV miniseries

Leading the cast of Tognazzi’s miniseries is there Bob Hoskins, in the role of Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli. The younger version of him is played by Fabrizio Vidale, while Cardinal Mattia Carcano is played by Charles Cecchi in his adult version and by John Light as a young man. Roland Ravello plays Giovanni Battista Roncalli, Robert Citran Monsignor Loris Capovilla e Sergio Bini Bustric plays the role of Guido Gusso. Arnoldo Foà plays Cardinal Alfredo Ottaviani, while Nicola Catania is played by Francesco Carnelutti as an elder and by Francesco Venditti as a young man. Ricky Tognazziinstead, the role of Monsignor Giacomo Radini-Tedeschi has been carved out for himself.

Originally broadcast in two episodes, on 28 and 29 January 2003 on Channel 5, The good dad returns tonight on the main Mediaset channel in a single evening which will continue from 21.21 until 00:32 with a total duration, excluding commercials, of 191 minutes, just over three hours.
