The young actress Sofia Otero has won the award for best interpretation of Berlinale for the film ‘20,000 species of bees’of estibaliz urresolaon a day in which the film ‘Roter Himmel’directed by German Christian Petzoldhas won today the Silver Bear Grand Prix of the Berlinale Jury.
“Thank you to the jury for giving me this prize so -oops, I don’t believe it- so special for me“said the young actress, who took the stage accompanied by the director of the film. She also thanked the technical team, hairdressing, makeup, direction, production, and her family.
“To my parents, to my father, Fernando Otero, the best father in the whole world, to my mother, who I love madly, to my brothers“he said, adding grandfathers, grandmothers, uncles and aunts, which made the audience laugh.
Cocó (Sofía Otero), eight years old, the protagonist of ‘20,000 species of bees’, does not fit the expectations of the rest and does not understand why. Everyone around her insists on calling him Aitor but she does not recognize herself in that name or in the eyes of others.
His mother Anne (Patricia Lopez Arnaiz), plunged into a professional and sentimental crisis, will take advantage of the holidays to travel with her three children to her mother’s house, where her mother Lita (Itziar Lazkano) and her aunt Lourdes (Ane Gabarain) live, closely linked to the breeding of bees and the production of honey.
The award was presented at the official awards gala of the international jury, chaired by the American actress Kristen Stewart.
In addition, the Spanish film ‘samsara‘, directed by Lois Patiño, is the winner of the special Jury Prize in the Encounters section, dedicated to new voices in cinema.

The filmmaker thanked the entire team that accompanied him during five years of the project and stressed that ‘Samsara’ is a film that celebrates the cultural diversity between Laos and Zanzibar and that invites the public to close their eyes for fifteen minutes to open them more deeply.
The Jury’s Silver Bear was the Portuguese Joao Canijo, for ‘Bad Living‘, while the Silver Award for Best Director went to Frenchman Philippe Garrel, for ‘The Grand Chariot‘.
