Ski jumping – Katharina Althaus
Ski jumper Katharina Althaus won the first German medal at the Winter Games in Beijing. The 25-year-old won the silver medal in Zhangjiakou, just missing out on gold. After Althaus was still in the lead at half-time, she had by far the worst conditions in the second round.
In the end, 2.2 points separated her from Olympic champion Nika Kriznar from Slovenia. After initial disappointment, Althaus was then able to celebrate silver.
