The first three to four months of 2022 were packed with titles, but now that the industry is taking a breather, there is no shortage of great games coming out in May.
Fans of samurai games inspired by the Kurosawa cinema they’ll be happy to see a new indie along those lines, while two long-running board game series, Warhammer 40k and Vampire: The Masquerade, will have as many game releases this month. The usual ration of nostalgia will not be missing, with a compilation that includes one of the most iconic arcade series in history. Here, then, is the list of the biggest releases of May 2022.
Trek to Yomi –
Trek to Yomi is a side-scrolling action game set in Japan of the Edo period, which is visually inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s samurai films. Don’t be fooled by the resemblance to Ghost of Tsushima and Sifu – even though it has the same influences and setting, Trek to Yomi is quite a different thing.
With a stunning black and white look, the game follows the story of the young warrior Hiroki who decides to set out on a journey to avenge the tragic fate of his village and keep a promise made to his dying master. Warhammer 40k: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters –
The next iteration in the Warhammer 40k franchise is a turn-based strategic RPG and reboot of 1998’s Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate.
In the game, you drive a team of Gray Knights, a secret section of the space marines, against the evil hordes of Nurgle, the Chaos god of decay, pestilence, agony and something else disturbing, who is determined to destroy the galaxy using a cosmic plague known as Bloom.

Salt and Sacrifice –
Salt and Sacrifice is another side-scrolling action-RPG with platforming elements, but offers a more hardcore souls-like metroidvania experience. This sequel to 2016’s Salt and Sanctuary it will launch you into a land full of mighty wizards who are sowing death and destruction. In the game, they will take on the role of an Inquisitor whose job is to hunt down these evil wizards throughout the kingdom.
The game can be enjoyed solo or in a new cooperative mode and just like in the titles of From Softwarethere is the option to invade another player’s realm to make their life a little more miserable.
Salt & Sacrifice is out May 10 for PC, PS4 and PS5
Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising –
Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising is a JRPG inspired in part by the series Konami’s Suikoden. The game is a spin-off of the upcoming Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, scheduled for 2023, and serves as a prologue to its story.
Rising combines elements of treasure hunting and town building in a beautiful two-dimensional world, playing as three heroes, Isha, Garoo and CJ, each with their own different skills and play styles.

Evil Dead: The Game –
This multiplayer survival is based on the Evil Dead movie franchise. Evil Dead: The Game is an asymmetrical multiplayer experience, where you take on the role of the protagonist of the series Ash Williams or his friends in a team of four survivors against a fifth player who controls the Kandarian Demon in search of their souls.
Evil Dead: The Game includes several maps, including the Knowby Cabin of movies, and over 25 weapons to choose from, including iconic chainsaws and carbines. After each action packed splatter match, players will level up to unlock new abilities that they can use in subsequent ones.

Tennis Manager 2022 –
After a month full of sports games, with the release of MLB The Show 22, MotoGP 22 and Nintendo Switch Sports, May still has something in store for the sportsmen inside you.
Tennis Manager 2022 promises a more realistic experience than last year’s chapter, with more than 5,000 players, access to over 2,000 tournamentsand a credible simulation both on and off the pitch.
Tennis Manager 2022 is out on May 17th for PC
Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong –
The long-awaited spin-off of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines is finally on the way after several postponements. The Big Bad Wolf developers promise “lots of characters, choices, dialogues and opportunities to decide the course of the story” in this Narrative RPG set in Boston.
In the game you will reveal the story through the eyes of three vampires, Galeb, Emem and Leysha, each with their own skills and points of view. Each character’s upgradeable vampire disciplines will allow for different approaches to gameplay, which will place an emphasis on the consequences of one’s decisions. On PC, Swansong will be an Epic Games Store exclusive.

Dolmen –
Dolmen is a souls-like action RPG but with a sci-fi setting and cosmic horror elements. The game is set on a known hostile alien planet like Revion Primewhere your character is tasked with taking samples of a unique and powerful crystal known as the Dolmen.
The game’s combat system is modeled after From Software’s Souls, with a variety of weapons and moves available. An “Energy Mode” is included, imbuing melee weapons with elemental buffs, somewhat as seen recently in Elden Ring.
Dolmen is out May 20 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S
Sniper Elite 5 –
The new iteration of the Sniper Elite series will once again put you in the shoes of undercover agent and expert sniper Karl Fairburne, and this time you’ll have to fight to find out Project Kraken in France in 1944. Fans of the franchise will have a familiar experience with good graphics, a solid range of weapons, and generally enjoyable stealth gameplay.
Sniper Elite will include many weapon customization options, an improved X-ray killcam and the addition of an Invasion Mode, which allows for both PvP and co-op play. You can find out more by reading our Sniper Elite 5 preview.

Pac-Man Museum + –
Compilation full of nostalgia, Pac-Man Museum + brings 14 titles from the iconic Pac-Man series to new consoles. The list goes by classic cabinet games from the early 90s to the latest console releases.
The original game that started it all in the cabinets is obviously part of this collection, but there is also the important absence of Ms. Pac-Man due to a legal dispute between Bandai Namco and AtGames over the rights for one of the very first female characters in video games.
Pac-Man Museum + is out on May 27 for PC, Switch, PS4 and Xbox One
