The frustrated escape of Ezequiel Guazzora

After remaining on the run for almost 70 days, the militant journalist Ezequiel Guazzora He was arrested in Merlo after an operation by the Argentine Federal Police (PFA). He is also a former candidate for national deputy for the Principles and Values party, of the former Secretary of Commerce, Guillermo Morenohad remained hidden since his arrest was issued in a case investigating him for sexual abuse with carnal access and corruption of minors.

For 68 days, the journalist’s whereabouts had been a mystery and even the national government had launched a reward of 4 million pesos for anyone who provided information about where was hiding to bring him to justice and face charges of having drugged a young minor to subject her to having sexual relations. All this, with the consent of the victim’s mother in exchange for money.

The case against Ezequiel Guazzora It began in 2022 after a complaint from the Stop Trafficking and Trafficking Network (RATT Argentina) to the Human Trafficking and Exploitation Prosecutor’s Office. The organization revealed a series of chats that incriminated the journalist and the victim’s mother, who is also detained and prosecuted, accused of delivering the minor and prostituting her in exchange for narcotics. Through a bank transfer, she would have paid him 100 thousand pesos for an “intimate meeting” with his daughter. In the judicial case there are messages between Guazzora and the victim’s mother that are not only aberrant but also make clear the exchange of money between them in order to proceed with the rape.

Even though until just a couple of months ago it was candidate for deputy and who has long-standing ties with various political actors, none of his fellow militants or acquaintances came out to support the journalist, who, while he was a fugitive, not only threatened to continue underground, but also stated that he was innocent, a victim of a persecution and that demanded his release.

After his arrest, Guazzora refused to testify before Justice. Then, he was transferred again to the Madariaga mayor’s office of the PFA, in Lugano, where, far from maintaining the low profile that he had the last 70 days on the run, he went viral. Guazzora, with his cell phone, was the one who filmed several detainees who were attempting a riot in one of the cells. The attempt was finally dismantled.

Thus, the journalist who knew how to forge links with very important political actors in Kirchnerism saw his escape from justice frustrated. Now, with no one to back him up, he must face the terrible charges against him.
