The French Olympic mascot is said to represent a clitoris

The choice of mascot for the Paris Olympics is receiving praise.

This is what they look like, Paralympic and Olympic Phrygia. PDO

A well-known animal character is often chosen as the mascot of the sports games, but the French, who are planning the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics, ended up with a different solution.

In the celebrations on Monday, the mascots, who are not actually characters at all, were awarded prizes. It is a Phrygian cap known from the Smurfs’ head, which has historical roots. The headdress already used by the Romans became a symbol of the great revolution in France.

– We chose an ideal instead of an animal. We chose the Phrygian cap because it is a very strong symbol of the French Republic. For the French, it is a really well-known object, a symbol of freedom, the president of the Olympic Games Tony Estanguet justified the unconventional choice.

Like a clitoris

However, it is suspected that the enthusiasm for the mascot in the French media and social media was found in the anatomy of the female genital organ due to its appearance.

Editor of the French newspaper Libération Quentin Girard rejoices that the red cap, which he describes as “like a clitoris in a leotard”, makes a revolutionary departure from the country’s well-known “phallic symbol”, the Eiffel Tower.

A French feminist writer who masterminded a street art campaign for clitoral awareness Julia Pietri says that the mascot indicates that his goal has taken great strides forward.

– Today I am happy and I celebrate it, thanks to everything that has happened in feminism, that people finally even recognize the clitoris. It proves that it’s popular culture now, and that’s a win.

The Paris Olympics will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024. The Paralympic Games are held between August and September.
