They will have to offer free visits for a minimum of four hours

The City Council once again announces its intention to initiate the claim for the recovery of the building, pending since 2020

The declaration of Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) of the Cornide house, started more than two years ago at the request of the City Council, is now firm. A new status that obliges the owners, the heirs of the dictator Franco, to a series of duties towards the building, among them, that of open it to free public visits a minimum of four days a month and for at least four hours. The declaration entails other obligations, such as the duty of conservation with the building given its heritage nature and the obligation to notify the Xunta de Galicia of any modification, work or reform carried out in its structure.

Last May, the Official Gazette of Galicia published the BIC declaration of the Cornide house, after which it appeared in the Official State Gazette and the deadlines for administrative or judicial appeals against that agreement of the Xunta Council began to run.

After this period and before the lack of resources, the property is already an Asset of Cultural Interest for all purposes. The statement, however, does not exempt Franco family of ownership of the building, which they continue to hold, unless it is claimed through judicial means.

This statement, however, It does not necessarily mean that the opening of the house will be imminent. hereinafter. The precedents that suggest that these visits can be expected are in the same family, but with another property: the Meiras manorof which the Frank They were owners until the State claimed it in court – a judicial process that remains open, pending the resolution of the Supreme Court. Although Meirás had been declared BIC in 2008 at the request of the Sada City Council, it was necessary to wait until 2011 to enter its doors for the first time, due to the multiple resources and impediments imposed by the owners to prevent its opening.

In the case of the Cornide house there are even more unknowns, since Its interior is still a mystery both for the general public and for Heritage technicians, who did not receive authorization to access the building to evaluate their stays.

The City Council of A Coruña, for its part, has once again announced its intention to initiate a legal claim to recover the house for municipal assets this year. A purpose that the plenary session approved unanimously in 2019, and that the local government announced on multiple occasions that it would carry out since 2020, without these actions having come to fruition.
