The Foreign Ministry received the Swiss ambassador, Hans Ruedi Bortiswith the flag of Denmark and, immediately, the opposition questioned the chancellor Santiago Cafiero (traveling in Paraguay) for the tremendous mistake of his portfolio. The incident occurred on July 20, during an act in which the portfolio received the credentials of the diplomat. “That the chancellor did not speak English is a piece of paper, but that he receives the Swiss ambassador with the Danish flag is an unacceptable lack of respect,” the deputy of Together for Change shot on Twitter. Due to this fact, the opposition announced that it will ask for Cafiero’s resignation, something that they had already done after the speech that the official gave at the Expo Dubai International Fair, at the beginning of the year, where he made clear a precarious English and even showed some filmstrips in which a misspelled word was seen.

But that was not the first time that Cafiero had problems with a speech. In November 2021, during an official act in which the Interministerial Work Table “Malvinas Agenda 40 years” was launched, the official confused the date of the Battle of Vuelta de Obligado: he said it had been in 1865, when in fact it was in 1845. Error that was revealed after the president Alberto Fernandez handed him, in the middle of the event, a “machete” thanks to which he was able to correct the mistake, a bit between laughs. “Excuse me, here Professor Fernández corrects me,” he joked.

In May 2022, during a presentation in the National Senate, Cafiero stated that he found it “harmful” that during the presidency of Mauricio Macri there was no Argentine ambassador in Venezuela. “Argentina was deprived of having first-hand information, of having a link with Argentines who are living there, and with Argentine businessmen who develop businesses there,” he assured then. However, the former chancellor Felipe Solácorrected it on Twitter, and exposed it.

Among the many failed acts of. official is the one he committed in 2020, when the Government tried to promote savings in pesos. In an interview in TN, Cafiero – then Chief of Staff -, insisted on encouraging Argentines to save in pesos and ended up contradicting himself. “You have to promote saving in dollars,” he said. And he tried to correct himself immediately: “oh, sorry, don’t put it on the graph”, he asked laughing after the journalists marked the error.
