HBO Max has released a first trailer for the announced “The Batman” spin-off series “The Penguin”. It stars Colin Farrell in the titular lead role. The series is scheduled to start in 2024.
Like in the film, he will be almost unrecognizable in the mini-series because of the make-up and costume. “Scarface” is to serve as an aesthetic template for the show. “The world that Matt Reeves created for The Batman is one that warrants a deeper look through the eyes of Oswald Cobblepot,” the actor said of his role last year. “[‚The Penguin‘] starts about a week after ‘The Batman’ ended, so Gotham is still a bit under water,” he said of situating the storyline in relation to the previous recent Batman adaptation starring Robert Pattinson as Bat-Man. Instead of directing the film, Reeves will co-produce and assist showrunner and writer Lauren LeFranc. Mare of Easttown director Craig Zobel is the artistic director of the eight-part series.
Farrell also stars Michael Kelly and Christin Milioti as Sofia Falcone, daughter of crime boss Carmine Falcone, who was portrayed in last year’s film adaptation by John Turturro.
