Here we go: winter is coming. At least a first wintry greeting. It’s supposed to snow on Friday.
The European and German weather models are expecting the first snowflakes of the new winter season from Friday afternoon and especially on Saturday night between Hamburg and Berlin.
“The snowfall area looks like a very thin and narrow sausage of snow on the weather map. However, the US weather model of NOAA holds against it. Sees a few wet flakes at most, if at all, not a complete snowfall area,” says qualified meteorologist Dominik Jung from wetter.net.
From a meteorological point of view, something is finally happening with the weather. The magic word is air mass limit. Thursday, Friday and Saturday it lays right over the north-east of Germany.
Weather expert Jung: “Very cold air masses are coming in from the east, while mild air is holding up from the west. The two air masses meet directly above the north-east and there can be rain, on the cold side also in a narrow strip of snow. That would be the first flakes of the season. This will be a very exciting borderline weather situation, especially on Saturday night.”
In fact, there can be surprises in such weather conditions. Smooth roads and white meadows and fields would be possible.
Is winter coming now?
Weather expert Jung: “That’s about it. There will be no more winter air in Germany until the first Advent. According to long-term forecasts, December will be far too warm.”
This is how it will continue in the coming days:
Wednesday: 7 to 14 degrees, it’s getting cooler in the north-east, clouds and rain showers alternate, with sunshine in between
Thursday: 4 to 15 degrees, cool air in the northeast, otherwise still very warm, a few showers
Friday: 2 to 13 degrees, cold in the northeast, sleet and snow possible in the afternoon and evening! Slippery roads, otherwise showery weather
Saturday: 1 to 12 degrees, cold north-east and mild south-west, occasional showers, snow in the north-east!
Sunday: 0 to 9 degrees, still cold in the north-east, otherwise mild and rain showers possible everywhere, also snow in the north-east
Monday: 0 to 10 degrees, mixed, mix of sun, clouds and rain showers, partly in the northeast also sleet
Tuesday: 0 to 9 degrees, hardly any weather change, mix of sun, clouds and showers
