The first convoy with Spaniards from Ukraine, escorted by the National Police, crossed the border this Saturday and the 40 civilians traveling in it are already safe in Polandaccording to sources from the Ministry of the Interior to Europa Press.

In addition to the agents who have escorted the convoy in Ukraine, there was another group on the border with a score of GEO to facilitate the passage. The civilians, already on the Polish side, have boarded a bus that will take them to an airport to be repatriated to Spain.

In the ‘Prussia operation’, the National Police is guaranteeing the security of the two convoys that have left the Embassy of Spain in Kyiv to evacuate consular staff and Spanish citizens.

The embassy already had a security team from the National Police that was reinforced last week with a group from GEO. As reported to Europa Press by sources from the Ministry of the Interior, the police have also been in charge of physically secure the Spanish embassy building after the departure of the second and last convoy this morning, in which the ambassador travels.

In addition, the agents have been in charge of lowering the National flag of the headquarters, which they will guard until Spain. Along with the security tasks, the agents are attending to the needs of the evacuees (water, food and sanitation).

The departure of the ambassador in Ukraine, Silvia Cortes, along with a hundred Spaniards who were still in Kiev, was announced this Friday by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, EU and Cooperation, Jose Manuel Albares. He indicated, in this sense, that Cortés, along with what remained of the Embassy staff after having been reduced to the essential minimum, were leaving in a convoy for Poland.

Last Tuesday another one came out with others 50 spanish so in Ukraine there would already be around a hundred, mainly double nationals and people with deep roots who had already made it known that they would not leave the country. To all of them, Foreign Affairs has recommended limiting their movements as much as possible and staying in a safe place, in constant contact with the Spanish authorities.
