The first CO2-neutral army barracks is in Ostend

Minister of Defense Ludivine Dedonder personally came to officially inaugurate the first CO2-neutral barracks. The six buildings of the Bootsman Jonson quarter are now connected to the Ostend heating network. This saves eight tankers of fuel oil per year and requires less power for heating, a profit of 77,000 euros. Defense is thus taking the path of greening and sustainability.

Minister of Defense Ludivine Dedonder: “We want to renovate our entire military infrastructure and make it CO2 neutral by 2040. And we continue to focus on ways to realize that energy transition, with solar panels and heat pumps, but also by facilitating the installation of wind turbines. .

We have decided in the Council of Ministers to purchase new radar systems, which will make it possible to install more wind turbines near military complexes.”
