From October 30, sports clubs can be the first to visit the new Huus for Sport and Culture in Zuidwolde. This applies to associations that previously used the temporary inflatable hall in the village. “But beware, limited,” the municipality of De Wolden writes on its website.
There is still a maximum on the number of people who are allowed to exercise in the new hall. Spectators are also not welcome yet. This mainly has to do with sanitary facilities. There are not enough of them yet, the municipality says. “We will be working on this in the autumn of 2023, with a view to the full opening of the building in January 2024.”
The building is being put into use step by step. Work on the space around the new complex is scheduled for October 16.
According to De Wolden, the outdoor area should be ready in the summer of 2024. Local residents can soon expect an invitation in their mailbox with more information about the plans.
The building does not only provide accommodation for athletes. The library, Welzijn de Wolden, a physiotherapy practice, village hall and billiards club De Boerhoorn will use it, among others.
Initially, the building would cost around 14 million euros. Due to the increase in construction costs, that amount ultimately rose to 17.9 million euros.
The municipality currently still owns the new complex. However, the intention is for the HSC Foundation, which will manage the building, to become the owner. During the council meeting last Thursday, the council unanimously approved the transfer. This will officially take place on October 20.
