Senni Salminen managed to hold the triple jump Finnish record for one year and two months.

The record was broken on Friday at the European Championships in Munich, when Kristiina Mäkelä won silver with a new record time of 14.64.

– I told Kristiina that you would have jumped a little further, so that you wouldn’t have to be so annoying. Great job. I’m happy for Kristiina, Salminen joked.

Friday night was already historic in itself, because there have never been two Finns in the women’s triple jump outdoor track competition final before.

For Salmi, the adult competition final was the first in her career. He was seventh with a result of 14.13.

All other jumps were overstepped.

– Jumping was a bit forced. No run came.

– The wind affected quite a lot. I started pushing too much if I felt that it was against me. The mimmies jumped far, it wasn’t about that.

Salminen was relaxed and smiling in front of the media. His best result of the season is still 14.32, which he broke in June.

– Everything was put into play. It looked like that.

At the Olympic Games in Tokyo and the World Championships in Eugene, Salminen’s sky ended with the qualification. He admits that adversity has taken its toll.

– Self-confidence has gone down after bad experiences. Now it’s coming back.
