After five years of absence, the iconic Ferris wheel is back at the place where, according to many visitors to the TT Assen, it belongs during the TT week: at the head of the Vaart. And the people of Assen are happy with the return. “Fantastic, isn’t it? Look what a beautiful face.”
Festival director Jan Gerbrand Krol didn’t have to make too much effort to get the attraction back to its familiar place. “It was a big request for everyone to get the Ferris wheel here, so it was actually arranged pretty quickly.”
Marinus Spelbrink, fairground operator, came up with the initiative years ago to put a Ferris wheel at the head of the Vaart. Marinus passed away in 2017, but his wife Gwendolyn has brought the Ferris wheel back to life. “We are proud to be able to continue it in his memory.”
The return of the Ferris wheel is causing quite a stir in Assen, Jan Gerbrand Krol also sees. “On Monday people were just watching the construction of the Ferris wheel. It stands out, is at the most central point of Assen. It is really something magical.”
