The feeling of insecurity is growing, but in Drenthe it is not too bad

More and more people in Drenthe feel unsafe in their own neighborhood. This is evident from figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). In 2021, 9.2 percent felt unsafe, compared to 10.5 percent last year.

From a national perspective, the increase in Drenthe is not too bad. In almost all other provinces people feel less safe. Only in Friesland is the percentage lower (10.5 percent) than in Drenthe.

South Hollanders (17.7), Flevolanders (17.5) and Limburgers (15.3) most often feel unsafe. According to Statistics Netherlands, the feeling of insecurity increased in all provinces.

The number of people who indicated last year that they had been victims of traditional crime (violence, theft, burglary, vandalism) has also increased. In Drenthe, 13 percent indicated that they had been affected by traditional crime in 2021. Last year that percentage rose to 15.2.

The number of victims of traditional crime increased the most in the province of Groningen (21 percent said they had been a victim, compared to 16 percent in 2021). Besides Drenthe, Zeelanders and Frisians were the least likely to be victims. North Hollanders most often (23.6 percent).
