Lemon curd is the secret weapon of home bakers when it comes to lemon pastries. Wrapped tarts, buns and cakes can be filled with lemon paste, and the easiest way is to buy the paste ready-made in the store.
However, the jam shelves have been empty for several months already for the most popular lemon curd brand, Mackays. Both Mackays lemon curd and lime paste seem to have disappeared from the stores.
Where has the popular lemon paste gone? We asked the importer about it.
– The manufacturer has had challenges in the availability of raw materials. The raw material challenges are caused by the effects of a bad harvest season for citrus fruits, says Fine Foods’ sales and marketing director Kristiina Laitinen For Pippuri.fi.
The bad citrus harvest has not only emptied the orange juice shelves, but also the popular citrus pastes from the jam shelves.
However, Laitis has good news for home bakers.
– After the manufacturer’s production break, the first batch of pastes has arrived in Finland from Scotland last week. The first deliveries from our warehouse to central stores have left last week. I would think that the products will be on store shelves during February-March.
