The innocent voice of a child can be heard in the background, while a freestyler from Rauma Toni Lampinen recalls the massacre he received in June.
The 34-year-old family man competes in a brutal sport whose effects can be far-reaching.
In June, Lampinen lost to its western neighbor in a Swedish FCR promotion match to Andreas Gustafsson.
The violent and bloody match was named the “fight of the year” by UFC Fight Pass, but Lampinen knows that this title is not necessarily something to celebrate.
– I had a constant headache for a couple of weeks. It was not a healthy thing, he admits.
– What all of that might follow later in life… That hitting on the head and such matches are not terribly healthy.
To the emergency room
Lampinen’s face was scarred and his elbow was in rough shape when Gustafsson defeated him with a technical knockout.
– The elbow kept breaking open again and again. It couldn’t really be quilted when the wick was at the end of the elbow.
– The wound became inflamed and we had to go to the emergency room for antibiotics three times a day for a week.
To Lampinen’s credit, it must be stated that the elbow opened when it hit Gustafsson’s nose bone. Blows were exchanged on both sides.
So could you say classically: “You should see that other guy”? Did he get even worse?
– I don’t know of a worse one. Neither looked good. There were no winners in that skaba.
Non-existent reward
The FCR promotion does not pay its fighters very large compensations. In this case too, Lampinen would have liked more money.
There is also no known bonus for the award given by UFC Fight Pass so far.
So Lampinen doesn’t walk to the bank, but to the doctor’s office, like so many times before.
He goes regularly to photograph his head, which has been severely damaged over the years. Fortunately, the damage is not visible yet.
– I have to check again at the beginning of the year to see if everything is OK, he plans.
