The father of tennis star Novak Djokovic, who was prevented from entering Australia, compared his son to Jesus Christ. “Jesus was crucified, everything was done to him, and he endured it and still lives among us,” said Srdjan Djokovic on Thursday at a press conference in Belgrade. “Now they are trying to crucify Novak in the same way and do everything to him.”
The probably unvaccinated Djokovic had traveled to Australia with a controversial medical exemption to take part in the Australian Open in Melbourne. The Australian border protection authority denied him entry. In the opinion of the authority, the athlete did not provide any suitable evidence to meet the entry requirements. He was taken to a hotel for people obliged to leave the country.
