Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc will wear a specially colored helmet this weekend.
For a while it seemed to remain just a dream. Leclerc’s tribute Gilles Villeneuve was initially not to the liking of the F1 legend’s family.
Leclerc appeared in Villeneuve’s helmet color during the Canadian GP’s Friday practice, but in Saturday’s practice the helmet had changed to the Monaco’s traditional pot.
Sky Sports pit reporter Ted Kravitz told the reason. Villeneuve’s estate initially did not accept the Leclerc tribute, as Villeneuve’s helmet had been combined with the Ferrari logo and the team’s current sponsors.
The problem was solved on Saturday. Gilles Villeneuve’s widow and daughter gave Leclerc their approval for wearing a helmet. F1 reporter by Andrew Benson according to which the cross rollers settled Jacques Villeneuvethe 1997 world champion.
Villeneuve, who drove in the F1 series from 1977 to 1982, is one of the greatest legends of F1 and Ferrari. In his career, the dashing Canadian drove all his races in the Italian stable. Villeneuve captured the hearts of F1 fans with his spectacular and unyielding driving style.
Villeneuve died during qualifying for the Belgian GP in 1982 when he collided with a slower car in front of him.
