The Government postpones the study of the draft and Social Rights shows its concern about the “constant delays”

The Council of Ministers will not study this Tuesday the draft of the family lawpromoted by the Ministry chaired by Ione Belarra, after the “socialist wing” of the Executive has decided to delay this approval, as sources from Social Rights have explained to EFE. The sources have indicated that the Ministry of the Presidency has communicated to the Ministry of Social Rights tonight that the Family Law will not finally be approved at the meeting of the Council of Ministers scheduled for within a few hours, contrary to what was initially announced.

The Ministry of Social Rights has shown its concern about “the constant delays to this norm on the part of the socialist wing”, since it considers that it is a piece of legislation “very urgent for Spanish families, who currently do not receive all the support they need, neither for conciliation nor for upbringing”.

The draft draft prepared by the department of Belarra creates new permits to facilitate the care of children and relatives, extends aid to single-parent families who will be recognized as numerous when they have two children, and will advance the equality of rights of all types of families. The sources of the Ministry recall that the law has already gone through all the formal procedures prior to the Council of Ministers, it is a milestone in the recovery plan and is part of the budget agreement for the year 2023.

The Belarra draft, which has finally left the Council’s agenda, was being negotiated until the last minute and planned to include a paid leave of five days a year to care for a relative up to the second degree or a cohabitant. Also a new permission for fathers and mothers of eight weeks to be enjoyed continuously or discontinuously until the minor turns eight years old.

The text legally recognizes the different types of families, expands worker care leave and family benefits, granting single-parent families with two children the protection that until now was reserved for large ones. The bill incorporates the extension of the parenting income of 100 euros per month for each dependent child under 3 years of age, which until now only working mothers received, for those who are unemployed or who have been on Social Security for at least 30 days . It also includes the right to early care for children under 6 years of age with a developmental disorder and a registry of domestic partners who will be entitled to the different permits.
