The exhibition on Wislawa Szymborska, music, theater and festivals

THEthe title, The joy of writingrecalls one of the best known poems by Wislawa Szymborska, the Polish poet, Nobel in 1996. The exhibition is a journey through his life, his lyrics, his relationships with friends, the special one with Genoa, the many artists who have been inspired by his work.

From family to travel, Peggy Kleiber's shots are on show in Rome

His collages are also exhibited, graphic works, letters, photos and ten unpublished poems translated into Italian for the occasion. From a young age, Szymborska has always cultivated the art of speaking and the art of drawing. About her Poetic talent and graphic talent are innate in her.

In the chronicles of the class of the Ursuline gymnasium, which she attended in the 1930s, some of her amusing drawings have been preserved. And almost contemporary to her poetic debut, which took place in 1945, is also her graphic debut: in 1946, in fact, he illustrates the volume of exercises of a popular English manual, A New English Manual by Jan Stanisławski (reissued up to the 1960s), with about eighty witty drawings – which, however, he does not sign except with his initials, perhaps out of modesty, perhaps because he has now embarked on the path of poetry.

Fact is that they are only recently rediscoveredafter his death. She would later only illustrate a children’s book by her then husband Adam Włodek: Puss in Bootsreleased in 1948.

At the turn of the 60s and 70s his artistic talent will manifest itself again in the collagesand only because – as she herself recounted – she found only very ugly postcards around: hence the decision to resort to own production.
