European countries will be able to refuse gas supplies from Russia within two years, declared EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell on Sky Arabia TV channel.
“Within two years, Europe will refuse Russian gas,” he said.
At the same time, Borrell said that European states “are striving to diversify gas sources to Europe” and “reduce dependence on Russian energy raw materials, but not ban it.”
Germany plans to halve Russian oil imports by summer
In early March, the European Commission presented a plan for an accelerated phase-out of Russian energy resources. The document is aimed primarily at reducing dependence on Russian gas. The plan provides for a two-thirds reduction in the need of the EU countries from Russian gas by the end of 2022.
