Several Member States already require a negative coronavirus test or the complete vaccination schedule to allow the correct transit of travelers

Twenty Seven Health Experts will meet this wednesday Brussels to discuss the coordination of possible entry requirements to the European Union (EU) in order to control the arrival of travelers from China after the peak of Covid-19 infections registered by the Asian giant.

The Swedish Presidency of the Council has convened this meeting of the Mechanism for Integrated Political Response to Crises (IPCR) after the lifting of China’s exit restrictions, coupled with the growing spread of covid-19 in the country, has prompted the need for joint European action.

Several countries -mainly in Asia but also the United States and some Europeans- have begun to demand a negative coronavirus test or the complete vaccination schedule to allow the entry of travelers from China, where there has been an explosion of infections in recent weeks after the withdrawal of most restrictions.

“The presidency is looking for a common EU approach to the possible introduction of entry requirements. It is important that we quickly take the necessary measures“, said the Swedish Minister for Social Affairs and Public Health, Jakob Forssmed.

The objective of the meeting, as confirmed by diplomatic sources to Europa Press, is to debate the situation of the Covid-19 in China and discuss the possible measures that the EU could adopt in a coordinated manner.

For his part, the Chinese government has labeled the measures “unacceptable” that some countries have already adopted to control the arrival of travelers from the country, alleging that there are no scientific arguments that justify the restrictions approved by governments such as Spain’s.
