Starting in the fall of 2024, all countries in the European Union (EU) will be obliged to use the same charger unique and universal for smart phonestablets and laptops. This was approved by the European Parliament on Tuesday after reaching an agreement with the members of the community club.
With this decision, the new and long-awaited regulation of Brussels will impose for all those devices mobiles a port USB-C with the aim of reducing the toxic waste caused by the thousands of different cables that exist, as well as defending the rights of consumers, who until now were forced to accumulate different types of chargers.
The European Commissioner for Industry, the French Thierry Bretonhas celebrated on Twitter the agreement reached to use a single charger, ensuring that with it “the general interest of the European Union has prevailed”.

This message refers to the frontal opposition to the project presented by Manzana. The American technology giant has denounced the project for months, as it defends its Lightning charging and connection technology, a differentiated system from USB-C chargers that brings it great income. Starting in fall 2024, European users will be able to use cheaper chargers for their devices. iPhoneiPad or Mac.

Breton has also celebrated that the adoption of a unique and universal charger means “more savings for European consumers and less waste for the planet”. In a press release, the Europarliament has pointed in the same direction, ensuring that the agreement reached on Tuesday makes products in the EU “more sustainable”.
“Consumers will no longer need a different device and charging cable every time they buy a new device, and will be able to use one charger for all their small and medium portable electronic devices,” reads the position of Brussels. The agreement also certifies that the adoption of a single charger will not affect the fast charging that some devices support.
