Manchester United, which is expected to part ways with Edinson Cavani in the summer, began their search for a striker to strengthen their offensive line.
The Red Devils are expected to join the teams that want to sign Erling Haaland, as coach Ralf Rangnick has announced that the club should get a new striker this summer.
United, who has been interested in the Norwegian striker for a long time, does not seem easy to add this player to their squad.
WHAT DID RANGNICK SAY?
“It’s clear that Manchester United need a striker. Cavani’s contract expires in the summer and the club needs to make the best striker reinforcement possible. I think everybody is aware of that.”
Old Trafford’s #1 striker is undoubtedly Cristiano Ronaldo right now. Cavani, who played good matches from time to time during the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer era, is also an important name, but the fact that both players are in the last stages of their careers forces United to transfer.
Ronaldo’s contract with the team runs until 2024 and includes an option to extend it for another year, but this option seems difficult for the 37-year-old.
Another striker of the team, Anthony Martial, was loaned to Sevilla until the end of the season and it is not clear whether he will be in the team next season. On the other hand, the contract of another offensive player, Mason Greenwood, was suspended after allegations of rape and assault.
Marcus Rashford, who also plays for the England National Team, is a strong candidate for the role of striker, but the fact that he is not usually used in this role and he feels better on the left wing weakens the possibility of Rashford.
HAALAND’S LAST STATUS
United, City, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Liverpool, Bayern Munich and PSG are among the teams that want to sign Haaland in the summer.
On the other hand, staying in Dortmund is another option for Haaland. The 21-year-old said in a statement on January 14 that he was pressuring himself to clarify the decision of Dortmund to make in the summer months.
The star player, whose contract will expire in 2024, will be able to be released in the summer for 75 million euros.
