Prime Minister Kirill Petkov, President Rumen Radev, as well as the Ministers of Internal Affairs, Defense and Finance, and high-ranking representatives of the main political parties, who were present at the meeting, switched to telecommuting.
The meeting of the Council was devoted to the position of Bulgaria on the accession to the European Union of North Macedonia. Petkov planned to visit this country on January 18, but now the trip can be postponed. The press service of the government told the agency that “the prime minister will be in quarantine, like the rest.”
Petkov will continue to work remotely, and Deputy Prime Minister Kalina Konstantinova will take over his duties, requiring a personal presence.
On Tuesday, January 11, 6,761 new cases of COVID-19 were registered in Bulgaria, with a population of 7 million, more than 800 people were hospitalized. Officials and politicians attending Monday’s meeting could remain in quarantine for up to seven days after the health ministry changed self-isolation rules that went into effect January 11.
