Last night, Frits Wester (61) remained comfortably in his seat in Humberto Tan’s talk show when all the other guests jumped up to jump through the studio. Even 68-year-old Huub Stapel…

Humberto Tan’s Friday broadcast is always extra festive and for serious guests there is a great risk that it will all be a little too frivolous. It happened to Frits Wester last night during the closing item about hip hop. Table guest John Williams decided to rap the House of Pain song Jump Around and everyone except Frits cheered up.

John’s song

How did this all come about? Humberto towards the end of the broadcast: “John, you have chosen a song and you say: that is really my song.”

John: “Well, my song… There are several, but indeed, this is a song that you just started jumping and doing in the clubs. That was a crossover, so it also reached the Top 40. It really is one of those epic number. Everyone remembers it, even today’s young people, I secretly assume. And that’s why I chose him.”

Bathroom

Humberto: “I have to be honest: I was really looking forward to this, because you indicated that you not only want to show it, but also want to make it heard. But have you ever sung or rapped before, John Williams?”

John: “Not on Dutch television. No.”

Humberto: “So it goes from the bathroom to the studio?”

John: “Yes, something like that! You all have to join in, right? Would you like some more applause for everyone? Let’s join in, okay!”

Frits remains seated

John’s call was answered enthusiastically. Not only Humberto jumped up, but also senior Huub Stapel and other table guest Dyantha Brooks. At one point she even started recording with her iPhone, as if she were at a fair somewhere instead of a live broadcast on television.

Frits was the only one who absolutely didn’t feel like jumping to the tune of Jump Around and just sat stiffly at the table. Tip for Humberto? Next time, hang the Budget Memorandum from the ceiling.
