The entire city center of Roeselare becomes zone 30

Roeselare has been fighting for some time against showy behavior and speed demons in the center. For example, mayor Kris Declercq had one car seized through new regulations after so-called ‘patserbehaviour’. The introduction of a general zone 30 in the city center is a logical next step. “We want to reduce the speed and give the vulnerable road user a visible place,” the city said. The Groenpark-Meiboom district will soon become zone 30 as well.

“When redesigning public domain, we start from the STOEP principle: priority for pedestrians and cyclists,” says the city council. “This already happened during the implementation of the circulation plan Rumbeke, the Godelievewijk and the redevelopment of Brugsesteenweg. Safe school environments and a redevelopment of
busy intersections, especially on popular cycling routes, remain a priority.”
