Several days ago, half a dozen MEPs walked through Catalonia, members of a mission that was to analyze the pros and cons of teaching in Catalan. They were all from the groups of the right, the extreme right or the liberals, since the rest of the European Parliament had not wanted to lend itself to the joke. They responded to a demand officially formulated by the Association for a Bilingual School -whose obsession is to end linguistic immersion-, but Behind the ‘missionaries’, of course, were the PP, Vox and Ciudadanos. As manager and coach of the team, the popular Dolors Montserrat, who did everything and more to get the particular Empastre Band will act among us.

As you can easily deduce, the mission did not come to study anything or learn anything. He arrived with conclusions made. They talked with families opposed to immersion and made some incomprehensible visits (a special education institute). On the third day – in reality, the stay could have lasted half a morning – its president, the Estonian Yana Toom, expelled the typical phraseology of radical Spanishism against teaching in Catalan. The Empastre Band did not need to meet, work, or make any report. Why, if Dolors Montserrat – who seems possessed by some dangerous spirit – had already made them learn their lesson? Nobody knew how or knows how to explain coherently what the hell the Banda del Empastre was doing in Catalonia, if the European Parliament does not have powers over education.
The MEPs then returned home. They had done what they had been entrusted with, which was nothing more than an operation – one more – of agitation and propaganda for peninsular consumption. The Spanish politicians and media rushed to finish by contently repeating Mrs. Toom’s lies and slogans, which, after all, are none other than their own lies and slogans, more moth-eaten than the mustache of the Count-Duke of Olivares.
