The Earth according to Philomena Cunk

★★★★★ We need to laugh, laugh at everything. Laughing at everything serves to distance yourself, understand yourself better, release endorphins, sleep well, be more attractive to others, make friends and digest anything. British comedian Diane Morgan knows this and has created a character, Philomena Cunk, who parodies documentary presenters. What Cunk does is narrate the history of Humanity, destroying the commonplaces of “Netflix documentaries” and baffling real specialists and academics with questions such as “Was Jesus the first celebrity victim of cancel culture?” or “Did a philosopher ever have an idea so big it cracked his skull?” Cunk / Morgan is encouraged to an episode where I decide if the Bible or the Koran is better: you have to be kind and brave for that. An attack on academic pedantry, on falsely “important” television, on the stolid British tone (he says all this without expression) and laugh-out-loud celebration. Which works for everything.
