The Dutch team climbs to second place thanks to a big win over Greece

The Dutch national team has achieved an important victory in the qualifying series for next year’s European Football Championship. National coach Ronald Koeman saw his team beat Greece 3-0 in a sold-out Philips stadium.

Thanks to the victory, the Dutch team climbed to second place with 6 points from three matches. World Cup finalist France was too strong for Ireland 2-0 and leads with 15 points from five games. Greece is third with 6 points after three matches. Ireland, the next opponent of the Dutch national team in Dublin on Sunday, follows with 3 points from four matches. The first two countries qualify for the European Championship.

The final score had already been reached at half time. Marten de Roon opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a shot from close range from a corner. The Dutch team moved further away via Cody Gakpo and Wout Weghorst (header). Denzel Dumfries provided the assist for all three goals. Midfielder Tijjani Reijnders made his debut in the second half.
