US ice hockey players beat rival Canada for the first time in 12 years

The United States men’s ice hockey team has won a surprising group stage win against neighboring Canada. The team won the group match 4-2. After Canada took the lead, the chances turned in the first period due to scores from Andy Miele and Ben Meyers. In the remaining two periods, the American ice hockey players then ran out to 4-2.

It was the first meeting between the two rivals at the Olympics since the 2014 games in Sochi, when Canada defeated the US in the semifinals. Four years earlier, at the games in Vancouver, the US last won against Canada, also in a group stage. The US now leads the group with two wins from two matches, followed by Canada, which can still qualify for the knockout phase.
