CIt took three years of restoration, but since yesterday the doors of Palazzo Moroni have finally reopeneda true marvel in the Upper Town of Bergamo, as well as the first acquisition from YOU DO, the Italian Environment Fund. Very complex work had to be carried out for the restoration, but the The result obtained is truly extraordinary.
Palazzo Moroni reopens in Bergamo
And so, after the opening of the gardens and vegetable garden in June 2020, in the midst of the pandemic that had hit the city hard, and that of four rooms with splendid baroque frescoes in September 2021, as part of the celebrations for the 500th anniversary of the birth of Giovanni Battista Moroni, whose masterpieces are preserved in these rooms, the seventeenth-century palace has been fully open since yesterday.
The restoration works
Palazzo Moroni needed extensive restoration work especially for safety, conservation and valorisation. The works involved the gardens, extended with panoramic terraces at the foot of the civic fortress and up to the vegetable garden; two hectares of countryside in the heart of the city, and the interiors in particular the decorations, furnishings, objects and works of art from the family collection.
The first urban building entrusted to FAI
The Bene was the first urban building acquired by the FAI in 2019, following an agreement with the Palazzo Moroni Museum Foundation, owner of the palace, established in 2008 by Count Antonio Moroni (1919-2009) and still presided over by his daughter Lucretia, to pursue the mission of making the property a collective heritage. «With the complete reopening of Palazzo Moroni, the FAI and the Palazzo Moroni Museum Foundation celebrate a significant milestone in the heart of the Upper Town, which represents yet another important event in the special year of Bergamo Brescia Italian Capital of Culture 2023», declared Giorgio Gori, Mayor of Bergamo.
A visit for everyone, no one excluded
Particular attention has been and will be given to the topic of accessibility thanks to tactile media available to people with visual impairments and, starting from 2024, a guide in simplified language which makes the visit accessible also to people with intellectual disabilities. Guided tours in LIS for deaf people will also be organised. The Palace can be visited from Wednesday to Sunday, from 10am to 6pm.
