The nomination of the Russian short cartoon “Boxballet” for the Academy Award “Oscar” will allow more people to learn about the author’s animation from Russia, said TASS its director is Anton Dyakov.
“Russian original animation definitely deserves to be talked about, deserves a special place. If with my work, which impudently penetrated this nomination, there will be an extra reason for some people to learn about our author’s animation, then this is a big plus and a great joy, ”Dyakov said. The director added that the nomination is great and he is very happy.
RBC turned to Anton Dyakov for a comment.
Boxballet is a love story between boxer Evgeny and ballerina Olga. The 15-minute cartoon was created in 2019 by the CTB film company and the Melnitsa animation studio. Previously, the studio’s cartoons have already been nominated for an Oscar: in 2009, the short film Lavatory Story – A Love Story received a nomination, and in 2016 – We Can’t Live Without Space.
Last year, Boxballet won the Best Animated Work nomination at the Koroche festival. In September, Dyakov was awarded the main prize in the Short Film nomination of the Icarus Prize. The animation was also nominated for the Nika award.
