She knows what she’s doing and she won’t let anyone put her offside, not even the President of the United States. He stands up to all the upper echelons of the political world, but always without betraying his ideas.

Accept some compromises, but always find the right solution in the end. She is a sort of heroine of diplomacy, capable of making her way in a world of men, where women are seen as modern Cinderellas who ended up in the control room almost by accident. In addition to saving the world, she’s grappling with the end of her marriage.
She is married to Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell), a former ambassador and prominent face of politics. Her husband knows about the vice-presidential bid, but keeps quiet because he thinks Kate is the best fit. Furthermore, for him it represents the opportunity to cover a new, even more prestigious position.
Between clandestine meetings and strategic but risky alliances, Kate can count on the help of assistant Stuart Heyford (Ato Essandoh) and British Foreign Minister Austin Dennison (David Gyasi). Furthermore, a strong alchemy is created with the latter, but their respective roles and the frenzy of the various operations lead them not to cross the border, but up to what point?

After House of Cards, Scandal, West Wing – All the President’s Men, Veep – Incompetent Vice Presidentand many others, with The Diplomat television returns to tell American politics, but with a new key. Although Kate Wyler always finds the right solution, even when things go wrong, he tends to be a super partes character.
It is critical of the United States when it recognizes the danger of a rash operation and the same is true of Europe. The long experience in the Middle East has allowed her to develop a broader vision than the one that presents itself on the embassy table and does everything to find the right compromise.
She is a determined, strong woman, able to watch her back from anyone, but at the same time to establish relationships of trust with collaborators and others. He embodies the identikit of a new type of diplomacy, which clashes with that represented by the male characters in the series. For example, initially the British Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge (Rory Kinnear) considers her not up to par just because she is a woman.
