Pekka Vesa in the late 1960s Nokia designed the popular Hai rubber boot model. Vesa died on October 23 at the age of 87.
The most recognizable product of the designer, who spent a long career at the Nokia rubber factory, is the mid-calf, loose-fitting Hai rubber boot model that was launched on the market in 1968 and is still in the brand’s production.
The model in question is available in children’s, women’s and men’s sizes in a huge range of colors, and new seasonal colors are also regularly introduced to the market. Today, Haita is also available in an ankle-like, low-slung city boot model.
I told you about Vesa’s death earlier Helsingin sanomat newspaper. Nokian uutiset published Vesa’s obituary earlier this week.
According to information from Helsingin Sanomat, the Hai boot model was to be completely discontinued, as Vesa, the assistant son of the model master at the time, was commissioned to design a sailing boot for the brand. The designer’s daughter, who tested the model piece of the rubber boot, thought the boot model was ugly, and the factory management was initially not interested either. However, the sales representative who happened to be there convinced the management and this is how the Hai boot ended up in production.
One of the seasonal colors of the Hai boot this fall is a beautiful, broken leaf green. 79 e, Shark.
